The Family

The author makes every effort to include accurate information about the real people in his stories. Although some of the details are invented, nothing is added that is not consistent with known history. The primary characters in The Westward Sagas are the family and descendants of Adam Mitchell, born in Lancaster, PA in 1745; died in Jonesborough, TN in 1802.

On Saturday, March 18, 2006, David A. Bowles participated in the 225th Observance of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse at the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park, the site of the battle and Adam Mitchell’s farm, as described in Spring House.

David A. Bowles represented the San Antonio Chapter of the Sons of the

American Revolution at the 11:00 AM ceremony, laying a wreath at the Nathanael

Greene Monument.

That afternoon, a seminar was conducted on the Mitchell Family at the Buffalo

Creek Presbyterian Church, founded by Adam Mitchell’s family.

Forty-five direct descendants of Adam Mitchell gathered in Greensboro to

observe the occasion. The family attended a special service at the Buffalo Creek

Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning. Three generations (the 7th, 8th, and 9th

generations from Adam Mitchell) enjoyed the reunion.
